Berlin, press of Aharon Rofeh, [1756] - An important work by Rabbeinu Shlomo ben Avraham ibn Adret (the Rashba), one of the greatest of the Rishonim and a central halakhic authority of Spanish Jewry, Containing sharp, deep, and thorough innovations in halachic law on seven major tractates: Shabbat, Rosh Hashanah, Megillah, Sukkah, Yevamot, Nedarim, and Bava Kamma. Presented here is an early edition printed in Berlin in the mid-18th century, at the press of Aharon Rofeh, one of the significant Hebrew presses active in Europe at that time. The book served as a foundational tool for analytical halakhic study and was widely used in batei midrash and yeshivot. A striking and exceptional copy in its size — a giant-format volume, approximately 45 cm in height, with especially wide margins (approx. 7.5 cm), a characteristic feature of copies intended for in-depth study, annotations, and prolonged use. [1], 132 leaves. Height: 45 cm. Binding: original leather binding, with minor flaws consistent with a binding approximately 270 years old. Condition: good. A few wormholes; light age-staining. Margins restored on leaves 1 and 2. Original leather binding with minor defects. Despite these imperfections, the copy is complete, impressive, and attractive, with strong bibliophilic presence. A foundational work for the study of the Rashba; in such a large-format and rare copy, this is a highly desirable item for collectors and rabbinic libraries.
