Responsa of the Rashba. Venice, 1545. Signatures and glosses of prominent rabbis - Responsa of the Great Luminary Rabbi Shlomo ben Aderet (Rashba), who illuminated the eyes of Israel with his mastery and penetrating analysis. Venice, Giustiniani Press, 1545. Title page: “Printed with great care and with the addition of references to Scriptural verses and Talmudic sources.” This monumental work by Shlomo ben Aderet (the Rashba) is regarded as one of the foundational pillars of Jewish halachah. It is cited countless times in the Beit Yosef and by virtually all major halachic authorities throughout the generations. The volume contains 1,250 responsa, with indices arranged according to the order of halachic topics. A copy distinguished by numerous ownership inscriptions and extensive handwritten glosses by several scholars. On the title page: signature of Rabbi David Bistritz, disciple of the Moses Sofer (Chatam Sofer). Signature of Rabbi Moshe ben Michal Schacherles, among the prominent communal officers of Pressburg in the era of the Chatam Sofer, mentioned by him in several places. Inscription: “Purchased for the Lord of Hosts, the holy Rabbi David Kitze” – Rabbi David Kitze, dayan in Pressburg during the time of Maharam bar Rabbi. Rabbi Shmuel Binyamin Sofer, author of Yalkut Eliezer and Av Beit Din of Dreghitza (signed twice).
