Pa’amon VeRimon. The Personal Copy of the “Great Eagle” – Rabbi Nathan Adler. Amsterdam, 1708 - The Great Eagle, Rabbi Nathan Adler – His Personal Copy! Pa’amon VeRimon – Abridgments of Pardes Rimonim by the Ramak, with the rare “Form of the Tree” diagram. Amsterdam, 1708. A sacred and attributed copy that belonged to the holy kabbalist, teacher of the Chatam Sofer – Rabbi Nathan Adler, known by the epithet “the Great Eagle.” On the title page appears his autograph signature: “Belonging to the humble Nathan, son of our teacher Rabbi Moshe Yaakov Shimon Adler, of blessed righteous memory” – a full signature attesting to the personal ownership of Rabbi Nathan Adler, one of the central and exalted figures of Ashkenazic Kabbalah, and the primary teacher of the Chatam Sofer. An important edition including two fundamental abridgments of Pardes Rimonim by the Ramak – Moshe Cordovero: Asis Rimonim by Rabbi Shmuel Gallico, and Pelach HaRimon by Menachem Azariah da Fano. In this edition, an additional gloss and commentary in round brackets was incorporated by the kabbalist Rabbi Mordechai of Prague – this being the first edition to include that addition. At the end of the volume is a large folding plate depicting the “Form of the Tree” – a diagram of the emanation of the Sefirot, among the rare and highly sought-after kabbalistic plates. Additional mystical diagrams and illustrations appear throughout the book. [4], 88 leaves and one folding plate. Good condition. Age staining. Minor tears without loss of text. Minor tears to the “Form of the Tree” plate. A few worming holes. Magnificent antique leather binding, slightly worn. A unique and highly significant copy – a central kabbalistic edition with distinguished provenance to the Great Eagle, Rabbi Nathan Adler.
