$100 Bill – “Like the Wealth of Joseph the Righteous” – A Dollar of Blessing from the Lubavitcher Rebbe for the Purchase of a Home in the Land of Israel - An American banknote in the denomination of $100, discovered in the estate of a Chabad chassid, preserved בתוך its original yellow envelope. On the envelope, the owner wrote in his own hand: “Like the wealth of Joseph the Righteous, and no foreign hand shall touch it. This money is designated to purchase a home in Israel. May the blessing of G-d be upon it, abundantly and exceedingly.” This wording reflects a distinctly segulah-oriented perception of the bill, regarded as safeguarded and sanctified capital for a specific purpose — the purchase of a home in the Land of Israel — in the spirit of “money of blessing, ” likened to “the wealth of Joseph the Righteous.” As is well known, the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, would distribute dollar bills to those who visited him, particularly on Sundays (“Sunday Dollars”), as a mission for charity and as a blessing for success. In most instances, these were one-dollar bills.
