Zayit Ra'anan. First edition of the fundamental commentary on Yalkut Shimoni by the author of Magen Avraham. Copy of the holy gaon Rabbi Nechemiah Alter of Gur. Dessau, 1704. - Zayit Ra'anan – an important and foundational commentary on Yalkut Shimoni, authored by Rabbi Avraham Abele Gombiner, the renowned author of Magen Avraham. Printed in Dessau in 1704. First edition. Presented here is the first and complete edition of Zayit Ra'anan. In later editions, the work was printed only in abridged form in the margins of Yalkut Shimoni, whereas here it appears in its full and expanded version. Rabbi Avraham Abele Gombiner (1637–1682), one of the foremost Acharonim, is especially celebrated for his classic commentary on the Shulchan Aruch, Magen Avraham, one of the cornerstones of halachic literature. On the leaves of the book appears the autograph signature of the holy gaon Rabbi Nechemiah Alter of Gur: “Hashem has favored me, signed Nechemiah Alter, ” together with his ownership stamps from the period when he resided in Otwock. Rabbi Nechemiah Alter of Gur (1875–1942), son of the famed Yehudah Aryeh Leib Alter and brother of Avraham Mordechai Alter of Gur, was renowned as an exceptional scholar in both revealed and mystical Torah. He served as head of the Sfas Emes Yeshiva. After years in the Land of Israel, he returned to Poland, where in his later years he served in Lodz as halachic authority and member of the rabbinical council. He passed away during the Holocaust in Warsaw and was buried in the cemetery on Gęsia Street. His son-in-law was the future Rebbe known as the Lev Simcha of Gur. Fragments of his Torah teachings were later published in Chiddushei רבי Nechemiah. A distinguished association copy, linking a foundational work by the author of Magen Avraham with one of the revered and saintly figures of the Gur dynasty. Stefansky, Sifrei Yesod no. 138.
