“Hasten to save such a precious Torah scholar… My burdens each and every day are beyond measure” – A rare and moving letter, entirely handwritten and signed by the Posek HaDor, leader of world Jewry, Rabbi Moshe Feinstein. New York, 1974. - An exceptional personal letter, casting vivid and heartfelt light upon the immense burden of leadership borne by Rabbi Moshe Feinstein, alongside his extraordinary sensitivity toward supporters of Torah and yeshivah students. In the letter, Rabbi Moshe apologizes for delaying the approbation that had been requested of him, and describes in rare language the relentless pressures upon his time: “It is impossible to imagine my burdens each and every day without respite, to the extent that even a few free moments are not to be found…” Yet upon receiving the petitioner’s recent letters, from which he learned of his deep desire—following the war—to obtain the approbation, Rabbi Moshe writes that he immediately came to his aid: “I was compelled to set all matters aside for a short while in order to write my approbation.” This expression—“to set all matters aside before me”—reveals how deeply Rabbi Moshe recognized the importance of assisting this “precious Torah scholar, ” later Rabbi of Gilo, Rabbi Eliyahu Schlesinger, and how strongly he felt obligated to help him despite an unimaginable burden of communal leadership. In the margin of the letter, Rabbi Moshe added a further handwritten note of special interest, mentioning the approbation of the gaon Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach: “If the approbation of Rabbi Shlomo Zalman Auerbach shlita is needed by Your Honor, write to me and return it.” A rare mention of two of the greatest halachic authorities of the generation in a single letter, reflecting the mutual esteem and respect between them. Personal letters of Rabbi Moshe Feinstein—especially those revealing the burdens of his daily life, the weight of his leadership, and his compassion for Torah scholars—are rare and highly sought after. Before us is a document of profound human and historical value, reflecting the exalted character of the foremost halachic authority of the last generation. 1 official sheet of paper. 14 x 21 cm.
