Kuntres “11 Nissan 5750” with a Charity Dollar Received from the Lubavitcher Rebbe – A Distribution Held in the Rebbe’s Home - Kuntres 11 Nissan – 5750, accompanied by a dollar for charity, given by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson. Published by Kehot, Brooklyn, New York, 5750 [1990]. “Two hundred years since the birth of the Tzemach Tzedek; forty years of the Rebbe’s leadership.” The present booklet and dollar were received directly from the Rebbe by a devoted Chabad chassid, who merited to draw close to holiness over the course of many decades. This chassid would travel regularly, year after year, to receive the Rebbe’s blessing, and at times would arrive together with members of his family, who likewise merited to receive from his hand dollar bills, coins, pamphlets, and copies of the Tanya. In this chassid’s estate, an original photograph was also found, depicting him in the presence of the Rebbe at the moment of receiving a blessing—an authentic and moving testimony to the personal connection and the elevated occasion. On the night of 11 Nissan 5750, marking the Rebbe’s birthday, the Rebbe distributed the present booklet together with a dollar for charity. The distribution took place inside the Rebbe’s home following the Maariv prayer. In the introduction, the editors wrote: “In honor of the auspicious day of 11 Nissan, the eighty-eighth birthday of the Rebbe Shlita, may he merit long and good years—we hereby publish the discourse ‘Ki Yish’alcha Bincha, ’ delivered by the Rebbe at the farbrengen of 11 Nissan 5738.” The Distribution in the Rebbe’s Home In Kovetz LeChizuk HaHitkashrut 29 (pp. 33–34), the following account is given of the distribution on the eve of 11 Nissan 5750: “On the night of 11 Nissan, following the Maariv prayer at approximately 9:30 p.m., R. Shlomo Zalman Gourary approached the Rebbe and conveyed birthday blessings on behalf of the Chassidim, students, friends, and the women and daughters of Chabad… The Rebbe then delivered a brief talk lasting several minutes, opening with the words ‘First of all, Amen, so may it be His will.’ At the conclusion, R. Y. Cohen Handel (of Montreal) recited the Priestly Blessing for the Rebbe, and the assembled responded ‘Amen.’ Thereafter, the Rebbe began distributing to each and every person—men, women, and children—the ‘Kuntres 11 Nissan 5750,’ in a festive light-blue cover, wishing each one ‘a kosher and joyous Passover.’ Inside each booklet was one dollar. The distribution came as a complete surprise, and the public had no prior knowledge of it. Entire families arrived with young children in honor of the Rebbe’s birthday, seeking the merit of receiving the booklet from his holy hand. During the Maariv prayer, most of the crowds waited outside, while only emissaries and distinguished guests were admitted into the Rebbe’s home due to limited space. During the distribution, the Rebbe’s countenance was especially radiant, and on several occasions he asked that the presence of the dollar be announced… At the conclusion, the Rebbe placed a booklet into his siddur, encouraged the singing with his holy hands, and ascended to his room on the second floor. The distribution concluded at 11:50 p.m. The crowd then proceeded to 770, where a large chassidic gathering was held. Initially, R. Yoel Kahn (‘the chozer’) taught the discourse, after which groups sat and farbrengened until dawn.” 11, [2] pp., 23 cm. New condition. $1 bill, serial number I14781115D, in excellent condition.
