“Kuntres Maamarim 5682” with a Charity Dollar Received from the Lubavitcher Rebbe – 10 Shevat 5752 - Kuntres Maamarim 5682, accompanied by a dollar for charity, both given by the Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson. Published by Kehot, Brooklyn, New York, 5752 [1992]. “The Year of the Tzaddik for His Honor the Rebbe Shlita.” The present booklet and dollar were received directly from the Rebbe by a devoted Chabad chassid, who merited to draw close to holiness over the course of many decades. This chassid would travel regularly, year after year, to receive the Rebbe’s blessing, and at times would arrive together with members of his family, who likewise merited to receive from his hand dollar bills, coins, pamphlets, and copies of the Tanya. In this chassid’s estate, an original photograph was also found, depicting him in the presence of the Rebbe at the moment of receiving a blessing—an authentic and moving testimony to the personal connection and the elevated occasion. This booklet, printed at the directive of the Lubavitcher Rebbe in connection with the yahrzeit of his father-in-law, the Rebbe Rayatz, on the 10th of Shevat, contains Chassidic discourses delivered by the Rayatz at the beginning of the year 5682, discovered in manuscript form. At the opening of the booklet appears a portrait of the Rayatz, and at its conclusion are facsimiles from the copyist’s manuscript, along with “Outline Notes from the Life of the Rebbe Rayatz.” On the night of 10 Shevat 5752, the Rebbe distributed the present booklet together with a dollar for charity. In Kovetz LeChizuk HaHitkashrut 29 (pp. 66–68), the distribution of this booklet and the accompanying dollars is described: “Earlier that day it became known that the Rebbe would distribute a kuntres that evening. A special excitement was evident among the crowd in anticipation of the event, both among the many guests who had arrived—including numerous emissaries and yeshiva students from around the world—and among the locals. Many students from nearby yeshivot also hastened to arrive early upon hearing of the distribution that night… The evening prayer took place at its appointed time. 770 was filled to capacity… At the conclusion of the prayer… the Rebbe turned and approached the distribution table… Before beginning, he delivered a brief talk… Immediately thereafter, the Rebbe began distributing the booklet. During the distribution, he responded to requests for blessings with phrases such as: ‘Amen, ’ ‘Much success, ’ ‘Blessing and success, ’ ‘A complete recovery, ’ and the like… The distribution concluded at 10:30 p.m., after more than three hours, during which the Rebbe distributed approximately 7,000 booklets. Later, a grand farbrengen was held in honor of 10 Shevat… A large crowd of Chassidim, students, and guests gathered at 770, seated around tables laden with abundance… The gathering opened with the study of a passage from the booklet that we had just merited to receive from the Rebbe’s holy hand.” The booklet: 59, [1] pp., approx. 23 cm.
