Extremely Rare! Likutei Amarim Tanya signed by the Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson from the final year in which the Rebbe received visitors in private audience (yechidus) - Likutei Amarim Tanya. Edition published especially for the Ten Days of Repentance, 5740 [1980], and distributed from the holy hand of the Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson during private audience (yechidus) sessions [the year 5740 was the final year in which the Rebbe received visitors for private audiences]. This edition was produced in a limited number of copies. The Famous Distribution At the close of the month of Tishrei 5739 [1978], during the private audiences for guests, the Rebbe instructed visitors to approach the secretariat in order to receive, as a “memento from the month of Tishrei, ” a Tanya volume for men, and a Siddur Tehillat Hashem for women. He said: “May the Holy One, blessed be He, fulfill the desires of your hearts. Enter the secretariat to receive a Tanya as a keepsake from the month of Tishrei, printed in Brooklyn, and study from it.” To women and girls he said: “A siddur in which to pray.” These volumes were especially cherished because the Rebbe’s holy signature appeared upon them — on the Tanya at the conclusion, and on the siddur at the beginning (Memento of Eternity, p. 7). Although the overwhelming majority of Tanya volumes distributed by the Rebbe in private audience and signed at the end were printed and distributed in the year 5739, our inquiries with knowledgeable Chabad sources confirm that a small number of copies were also signed and distributed by the Rebbe during private audiences in the following year, 5740. Thus, the present copy is an exceedingly scarce example from the few distributions that took place in 5740. To the best of our knowledge, this edition, distributed personally by the Rebbe, has never before appeared at auction. It is fitting to cite two expressions — among many others — spoken by the Rebbe in connection with his instruction to receive a Tanya. To one visitor he said: “When you study this Tanya, you will arrive at the correct decision.” To another, after blessing him, he said: “When you study this Tanya, all the blessings will be fulfilled.” Provenance The present Tanya was received directly from the Rebbe by a distinguished Chabad chassid who merited closeness to holiness for many decades. That chassid would travel faithfully each year to receive the Rebbe’s blessing, and at times came together with members of his family, who likewise merited to receive from his hand dollar bills, coins, pamphlets, and Tanya volumes. Among that chassid’s estate was also found an original photograph in which he is seen standing in the Rebbe’s presence while receiving a blessing — a living and moving testimony to the personal connection and exalted moment. This volume forms part of a rare group of thirteen Chabad-related items, all from the personal collection of that same chassid. Authentication and background details will be provided to the purchaser.
