Sefer HaKavanot of the Ari z”l – Manuscript copied by the scribe Rabbi Yosef Adani. Yemen, 19th Century. - Presented here is an elegant Yemenite manuscript copy of one of the foundational works of Lurianic Kabbalah, written by the noted scribe Rabbi Yosef Adani. The volume contains profound mystical teachings and meditative intentions (kavanot) arranged according to the order of prayer, together with sections on the punishments of the grave (Chibbut HaKeever) and additional subjects in the hidden tradition, described on the title page as “secrets concealed from the eyes of all living beings.” The manuscript was copied from the edition prepared by Rabbi Moshe Trinki (Venice, 1620), and includes the original wording of that title page as well as the editor’s introductory preface. At the head of the manuscript appears the verse: “In the Name of the Lord, God everlasting; prepare to meet your God, O Israel, ” inviting the reader to spiritual elevation in preparation for the study of the holy Arizal’s teachings. At the foot of the title page appears the scribe’s colophon: “The weak and poor scribe, the lowest threshold, beseeches before the Dweller on High: Yosef son of Rabbi Sachar son of Rabbi Yosef son of Rabbi Shlomo, known as Adani.” A handsome and important Yemenite witness to the spread and study of Lurianic Kabbalah in the Jewish communities of Yemen.
