Sefer Pri Chadash. Amsterdam, 1706. First Edition. Magnificent Copy with Wide Margins. - Pri Chadash, one of the foundational and most influential works of halachic literature, authored by the renowned gaon Rabbi Chizkiyah di Silva, among the leading halachic authorities of the Jewish world and a central figure in Sephardic jurisprudence. Before us is the first edition, printed in Amsterdam by the author’s son, at the press of Nethanel Phoa, and containing approbations from the sages of Jerusalem. The present volume covers portions of Orach Chaim and Even HaEzer, including the laws of: Rosh Chodesh, Passover, Festivals, Megillah, Divorce documents (Gittin),   It also contains important commentaries on the Sefer HaMadda of Maimonides. A Book that Stirred Controversy – Yet Was Accepted for Generations Upon its publication, the work aroused considerable controversy. Many sought to place it under ban, since the author frequently and boldly disputed the rulings of Maran, the Shulchan Aruch. Yet because it was written with pure intent, intellectual honesty, and profound scholarship, its teachings gradually gained acceptance throughout the Jewish world. In time, Pri Chadash became one of the classic authorities upon which later decisors relied, and it is cited constantly in halachic literature to this day.
