The Personal Amulet of the Great Kabbalist Hacham Yitzchak Kaduri – The Turquoise Ring that Removed the Evil Eye and Changed Destinies - Before us is the personal and rare robe of the Admor Rabbi Elazar Abuchatzira zy”a — “Baba Elazar” — who was especially renowned, even among the illustrious members of the Abuchatzira dynasty, as a worker of salvations and miracles beyond the laws of nature for the multitudes who sought his blessing. This is his pure white robe, which he would wear during the loftiest and holiest times — on Shabbatot and festivals — when tzaddikim, according to the path of Kabbalah, would wrap themselves in white garments as a symbol of holiness, purity, and spiritual elevation. The robe was given after his passing by his wife, the Rebbetzin Devorah shelit”a, to his longtime attendant in sacred service, Rabbi Yehoshua Elkayim, as a sign of appreciation and esteem for his devotion and loyalty to Sidna “Baba Elazar” zy”a. Included is a handwritten confirmation from the family of the attendant Rabbi Yehoshua Elkayim of Be’er Sheva. Before us is a rare and one-of-a-kind sacred item, the likes of which has never before appeared at public auction — and it is doubtful whether it will ever appear again in the future. As is well known, Baba Elazar was considered one of the wealthiest and most revered figures in the rabbinic world, and various media assessments attributed to his court and assets a fortune of hundreds of millions of shekels. For this reason, his personal items — and certainly the sacred garments he used — are entirely absent from the collectors’ market and are generally preserved by family members and close associates. The robe before us is especially extraordinary, as it was used by the Rabbi himself during the most exalted times and was personally given to his close attendant as a token of gratitude and appreciation, and is among the very few sacred items of the Rabbi to have reached the Judaica market. Baba Elazar was especially renowned for his guarding of the eyes, and the robe before us was specially tailored for him so that the upper hood attached to it, in the custom of the righteous members of the dynasty, is far longer than usual, and would constantly cover his holy eyes so they would not gaze upon any impure sight. Biography: Rabbi Elazar Abuchatzira — known as “Baba Elazar” (1948–2011) — was born into a dynasty of supreme holiness: son of Rabbi Meir Abuchatzira (“Baba Meir”), grandson of Rabbi Yisrael Abuchatzira (“Baba Sali”), and heir to the path of the great sages of the Abuchatzira family throughout the generations. His name, “Elazar, ” was given in honor of the Tanna Rabbi Elazar son of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai. It is told that before his birth, the “Baba Sali” saw Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai in a nocturnal vision, and at the brit milah he recited over him the verse: “Eye has not seen, O God, besides You” — whose initials form the name “Elazar.” Through this rare expression, the “Baba Sali” hinted at the greatness of his soul and the spiritual stature of the newborn child. From a young age, Baba Elazar became renowned for his holiness and his extraordinary guarding of the eyes. During the final decades of his life, he almost never went out into the street, and would walk wrapped in a robe and covered with a long pointed head covering that concealed his holy face from the eyes of the public. Even on his way from his home to his study hall he was never seen in public, and for this purpose a special tunnel was constructed connecting his home to his study hall. Although every day he received multitudes of people who came seeking counsel, blessing, and salvation, only very few merited to behold the radiance of his countenance. Around his figure countless stories were woven of wondrous salvations, fulfilled blessings, and miraculous advice, and masses flocked to him from throughout the country and the world. In 2011, Baba Elazar was murdered by a man who came to his home ostensibly to receive his blessing, but drew a knife and stabbed him to death. His passing struck the entire world of Torah and Chassidut with shock. Following the days of mourning, the Rishon LeZion and Chief Rabbi of Israel, Rabbi Shlomo Moshe Amar, composed a special lamentation in his memory, in the style of the kinot of Tishah B’Av. ..........................................
