New Year Blessing Letter Signed by the Vizhnitz Rebbe, Author of Imrei Chaim – Tishrei 1953 - An important New Year blessing letter from Rabbi Chaim Meir Hager of Vizhnitz, the famed Imrei Chaim, sent at the beginning of the year 1953. In his letter, the Rebbe extends heartfelt blessings to the recipient and his family, writing: ”May it be the Divine will that He renew for him, his household, and all those connected to him a good and sweet year, a year of life, blessing and peace, with perfect health...” Rabbi Chaim Meir Hager, author of Imrei Chaim (1888–1972), was the fourth Rebbe of the Vizhnitz dynasty and one of the foremost leaders of Hasidic and Orthodox Jewry in the twentieth century. A member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Agudath Israel and one of its guiding figures, he was the son of Rabbi Yisrael Hager of Vizhnitz and the grandson of Rabbi Chaim of Kosov, author of Toras Chaim, and Rabbi Meir of Dzhikov, after whom he was named. Following the passing of his father in 1936, he succeeded him as Rebbe in Grosswardein (Oradea). After surviving the devastation of the Holocaust, he immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1947 and immediately began rebuilding the Vizhnitz dynasty. In 1948 he founded Kiryat Vizhnitz in Bnei Brak, which became one of the most significant Hasidic centers in the State of Israel. The present letter originates from the formative years of Vizhnitz’s reestablishment in Israel. It is written on the Rebbe’s official stationery, still bearing his former Tel Aviv address, with the new address — “Bnei Brak, Shikun Vizhnitz” — corrected and printed onto the letterhead. This fascinating detail serves as tangible evidence of the transition of the dynasty’s center to the newly established Vizhnitz neighborhood in Bnei Brak.
