An Elegant Parchment Scroll of Ruth – Jerusalem, Early 20th Century - A beautiful and finely executed Megillat Ruth on parchment, written in ink on a large parchment sheet. Jerusalem, circa early 20th century. Executed in a handsome and carefully crafted Ashkenazic scribal hand (Beit Yosef script) by a skilled scribe. The scroll is written in an impressive format of 42 lines, arranged in four columns on a single membrane, in the dignified style characteristic of fine ceremonial scrolls. Megillot Ruth written on parchment are particularly rare. They were produced primarily for use on the Festival of Shavuot, for the public reading of the Megillah in synagogues and study halls. Height: 51.5 cm (20.3 in). Condition: Good. A few isolated wormholes at the margins of the scroll, not affecting the text.
