Avodat Mikdash – Order of the Yom Kippur Musaf Service Livorno, 1797 | Magnificent Contemporary Gilt Leather Binding - Avodat Mikdash, the liturgy of the Musaf service for Yom Kippur, containing the description of the Temple service as traditionally recited on the holiest day of the year. Printed in Livorno, 1797, one of the foremost centers of Hebrew printing in the Mediterranean world. A particularly noteworthy feature of this edition is the special prayer printed on its final page, composed by Rabbi Chaim ben Attar, the renowned author of the Or HaChaim. The prayer was intended to be recited on Yom Kippur while the cantor chants the Thirteen Attributes of Mercy, beginning with the words “VaYa’avor Hashem Al Panav VaYikra.” Associated with one of the most exalted moments of the Yom Kippur service, this addition lends the edition special significance. The volume was edited and prepared for publication by Rabbi Moshe Chai Milul, one of the scholars of Livorno, known as a proofreader, editor, and Torah scholar. Rabbi Moshe was a disciple of the renowned Rabbi Malachi HaKohen, author of Yad Malachi, and in the introduction to his teacher’s work he offers valuable biographical insights into his character and scholarship. He was also among the scholars of Livorno’s celebrated Yeshivah HaKelalit, one of the city's leading centers of Torah learning. 70 leaves. 15 cm.
