Seder Tefillah KeMinhag HaAshkenazim – From the Beginning of the Year to Its End. Karlsruhe, 1805 Magnificent Copy in Its Original Gilt Leather Binding - A comprehensive and elegantly produced Ashkenazic prayer book containing the prayers for the entire year, together with customs based upon the Kabbalistic teachings of Rabbi Isaac Luria (the Ari), Yiddish translations and explanations of the liturgy, as well as practical laws and customs relevant to daily Jewish life and divine service. Printed in Karlsruhe in 1805, following the tradition of the earlier Amsterdam editions. This is one of the most extensive and richly compiled siddurim produced for Ashkenazic Jewry in Central Europe during the early nineteenth century. In addition to the standard liturgy, it contains Torah portions, Shir HaYichud, Ma'aravot, Yotzrot and Zulot for the Sabbaths throughout the year, Selichot, Hoshanot, the Passover Haggadah, Tikkunei Shabbat, Perek Shirah, the Vidui HaGadol, Keter Malchut, the Book of Psalms, Ma'amadot, numerous supplications and devotional prayers, as well as the prayers for Yom Kippur Katan, which were added to this edition. A particularly noteworthy feature of this siddur is the complete Book of Psalms printed with the German translation of Moses Mendelssohn, one of the most influential figures in the history of German Jewry. Presented here in an attractive and carefully designed format, the translation reflects the growing influence of the Jewish Enlightenment on Hebrew printing during the early modern period. At the beginning of the volume appear a series of dated family records from the years 1808–1827, documenting the births of sons and daughters within the family that owned the siddur. These inscriptions add a personal and historical dimension to the volume and testify to its continuous use over several decades. [6], 192, 166 leaves. 23.5 cm.
