Torat HaBayit HaKatzar – Cremona, 1565 – First Edition One of the Foundational Works of Halachic Literature - “Vezot Torat HaBayit” – Torat HaBayit HaKatzar by Rabbi Shlomo ben Aderet (the Rashba). Cremona, 1565. First edition. Torat HaBayit is one of the most influential and authoritative halachic works on the laws of kashrut and ritual prohibitions. The Rashba composed the work in two versions: the long version, containing extensive halachic analysis and discussion, and the short version, intended as a practical guide to halachic rulings. The Torat HaBayit HaKatzar was printed many years before the appearance of the longer version (Venice, 1608), and for generations served as the primary and most widely available edition of the work. Presented here is the first edition of one of the Rashba’s most important compositions. The Rashba was the foremost sage of Spanish Jewry in his generation and one of the greatest Rishonim, teacher of the Ritva, Rabbeinu Bachya, and many other leading scholars. In his introduction he writes: “May God, who stands at the right hand of the needy, send us help from His sanctuary, sustain us from Zion, teach us His ways, and enable us to walk in His paths.” Ownership signature on title page.
