Torah Pointer of Ornamental Stone and Silver – Russia, 19th Century - An impressive Torah pointer (Yad) crafted from a green ornamental stone with natural veining, enhanced by finely executed silver mounts and decorations. At its lower end is a finely modeled silver hand, cast in three dimensions, with the index finger extended in the traditional manner used for following the text while reading from a Torah scroll. The shaft is adorned with silver bands and decorative elements, some set with small red stones that add elegance and visual appeal. The upper section is surmounted by a clear glass or crystal orb, mounted within an ornate silver setting and accompanied by its original suspension ring. The piece combines high-quality materials, refined silversmithing, and a graceful design characteristic of ceremonial Jewish ritual objects produced in nineteenth-century Russia. The contrast between the polished ornamental stone and the silver embellishments creates a particularly distinguished appearance. Length: 25.5 cm. The pointer is accompanied by a green felt protective sleeve, which may have been made at a later date. Very good condition. An attractive and finely crafted Judaica object, combining traditional silversmithing with luxurious materials and reflecting the elegance and craftsmanship characteristic of Eastern European synagogue treasures of the nineteenth century.
