Collection of Six Moroccan Amulets – Manuscript, Silver and Glass – for Protection, Healing and Finding a Match. Morocco, 19th–20th Centuries - An interesting collection of six traditional Moroccan amulets, some handwritten and others decorated with Kabbalistic symbols and illustrations. The amulets were intended for various purposes – protection, healing, blessing, and finding a suitable match. Among the amulets: A paper amulet set within a tin frame under glass, containing a formula invoking the merit of the holy Tanna Rabbi Meir Baal HaNes, may his merit protect us, as well as a reference to the angel Raphael, the angel of healing. An additional amulet made of silver, bearing a handwritten Moroccan Kabbalistic inscription, composed as a segulah for the complete recovery of its bearer, who is mentioned by name: Yaakov son of Rachel. Three additional Moroccan amulets decorated with Stars of David, sacred names, Kabbalistic symbols, and traditional amuletic designs. One includes the formulas “good protection” and “complete recovery”; another is rectangular in form; and another bears a Star of David together with sacred names or combinations of holy letters. The sixth amulet was written specifically as a segulah for finding a match for a young woman. It contains a prayer that she find favor in the eyes of those who see her and be received with goodwill, together with invocations of the Patriarchs and Kabbalistic combinations. The text concludes with the request that “immediately and without delay, a suitable match shall come to her.” A diverse collection representing the amuletic tradition of Moroccan Jewry and the use of sacred names, Kabbalistic symbols, and formulas of prayer and blessing for protection, healing, and finding a match.
