The Personal Shabbat Prayer Book of Rebbe Rabbi Leibush of Pshevorsk, Shlita – With an Ownership Inscription by His Father, Rebbe Rabbi Yankele of Pshevorsk - Seder Korban Minchah – Including Prayers for Shabbat and the Festivals. Vilna, תרס”ח [1907]. On the front flyleaf preceding the title page, as well as at the end of the prayer book, are ownership inscriptions in the sacred handwriting of Rabbi Yankele of Pshevorsk, attesting that the prayer book belonged to “Chaim Leibush Leizer” – his son and successor. Before us is a rare prayer book that was given to the young Rebbe Rabbi Leibush of Pshevorsk by his father, bearing his name and their residential address during their stay in Paris. This is a rare Hasidic artifact of historical importance, directly associated with the beginnings of the Pshevorsk dynasty. Rebbe Rabbi Yaakov Leizer of Pshevorsk, known as “Rabbi Yankele of Antwerp” [תרס”ז–תשנ”ט], was the second Rebbe of Pshevorsk. He was a distinguished disciple of the holy Rebbe of Koloshitz and served as rabbi in Yashlisk. Following the passing of his father-in-law, Rebbe Rabbi Moshe Yitzchak Gewirtzman of Pshevorsk, he was appointed as his successor. Renowned for his sanctity and asceticism, he drew multitudes who sought his blessings and salvation. Rabbi Chaim Leibush Leizer of Peshawarsk was born in Przeworsk, Galicia, to Rabbi Yaakov Leizer, later the second Peshawarsk Rebbe, and his wife, daughter of Rabbi Moshe Yitzchak Gewirtzman, founder of the dynasty. During the Second World War he spent the war years in Siberia, after which he returned with his family to Kraków. In 1948 he immigrated with his parents to Paris, and in 1957 his grandfather, Rabbi איציק'ל (Yitzchak) of Peshawarsk, settled in Antwerp, Belgium. In 1958 he married Rebbetzin Malka Mindel Chana, daughter of Rabbi Alter Yaakov Yitzchak Wagshal of Lantshut, and the couple lived in Williamsburg, where he formed close relationships with the leading Chassidic masters of the generation, including the Klausenburger Rebbe, the Satmar Rebbe, and the Skver Rebbe. He later returned to Antwerp to live alongside his father, and following his father's passing in 1998, succeeded him as Peshawarsk Rebbe. The present Rebbe is known for introducing several distinctive practices, including conducting the prayers at their proper halachic times even on Shabbos and Festivals, limiting the Friday night tish to once each month, and changing the traditional distribution of garlic from Saturday night to Sunday evening. He also serves as president of Kollel Chibas Yerushalayim – Tzedakas Rabbi Meir Baal HaNes in Europe. The Peshawarsk Rebbe is revered by thousands of Chassidim and admirers worldwide and is widely regarded as a righteous leader, miracle worker, and source of blessing for all who seek his guidance. 175 pages. 14 cm.
