Autograph Manuscript: The Personal Lecture Notebook of Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky, One of the Greatest Roshei Yeshivah of the Twentieth Century - Autograph Manuscript: The Personal Lecture Notebook of Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky, Rosh Yeshivah of Ponevezh A complete notebook (53 handwritten pages) entirely in the autograph handwriting of the illustrious Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky, Rosh Yeshivah of Ponevezh. This unusually thick lined notebook contains his original Torah novellae on Tractate Bava Metzia. As is well known, Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky wrote relatively little, and the vast majority of his Torah teachings were preserved through the notes of his students (see the introduction by his son to Shiurei Rabbi Shmuel on Makkos). This makes the present manuscript exceptionally significant. Spanning 53 densely written pages, it preserves Rabbi Shmuel's own handwritten analysis of some of the most classic yeshivah sugyos. It also offers a rare opportunity to encounter firsthand his celebrated style of expression and his unique method of analysis, widely regarded as unparalleled both in his generation and in those that preceded it. Rabbi Shmuel Rozovsky (1913–1979), Rosh Yeshivah of Ponevezh, stood at the forefront of the Lithuanian yeshivah world. Already in his youth he was recognized as an outstanding talmid chacham, and while still a young man he was appointed Rosh Yeshivah of Ponevezh, an exceedingly rare distinction. More than any other figure, he shaped the model of the modern yeshivah student, serving as the vital bridge through which the Torah methodology of the great Lithuanian roshei yeshivah of the pre-Holocaust era was transmitted to the postwar generation. His teachings were later published in the renowned series Shiurei Rabbi Shmuel and Zikhron Shmuel, which continue to serve as foundational texts for the lectures of leading roshei yeshivah, many of whom were his own disciples. Lined notebook of 72 leaves (20 × 16 cm). 53 written pages, entirely in the author's autograph handwriting, with a small number of corrections and deletions. Condition: Very good.
