First Edition. Distinguished association copy, bearing a personal dedication handwritten and signed by the author, the Gaon Rabbi Meir Shapiro. The Gaon Rabbi Meir Shapiro (1887–1933) was one of the foremost leaders of Polish Jewry in the generation preceding the Holocaust. Already in his childhood he was renowned as an extraordinary prodigy and was widely known as the “Illui of Shotz.” He served as Rabbi of Glina, Sanok, Piotrków, and finally Lublin, and was among the leading figures of Agudath Israel. His name was immortalized through two monumental achievements: the establishment of the Daf Yomi program, which to this day unites tens of thousands of Torah scholars and students throughout the world in the daily study of Talmud, and the founding of the celebrated Yeshivas Chachmei Lublin, regarded as one of the most prestigious and important yeshivot in prewar Poland. To establish the yeshiva, Rabbi Shapiro undertook extensive fundraising journeys throughout Europe and the United States, raising support from Jewish communities to realize his vision. Or HaMeir is one of Rabbi Meir Shapiro’s principal works, containing halachic responsa that attest to his brilliance, vast erudition, and stature as one of the outstanding young halachic authorities of his generation.
