Ahavat Yisrael, Chassidic discourses and teachings on the Book of Genesis, with additional collected writings, by Rabbi Yisrael Hager of Vizhnitz. Grosswardein, 1943. First edition. The first edition of one of the most important, studied, and frequently cited works of Chassidic literature, printed in the midst of the Holocaust years. The volume contains Chassidic teachings on the Book of Genesis and additional selections, and was published with an introduction by the author's sons. Rabbi Yisrael Hager (1860–1936), known as the Ahavat Yisrael, was among the foremost Chassidic leaders of his generation and one of the principal architects of the Vizhnitz movement. Under his leadership, Vizhnitz expanded dramatically, and his teachings became a cornerstone of Chassidic thought. His descendants continue to lead the various Vizhnitz courts to this day. Printed with the approbation of his grandson, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Hager, author of Tzemach Tzaddik, who wrote that the publication of the book would ”bring blessing into your homes.” [4], 99, [1], 101–118 leaves.
