Be’er Yitzchak Responsa – With a Lengthy Autograph Annotation by Rabbi Meir Shapiro of Lublin - Be’er Yitzchak, responsa by Rabbi Yitzchak, Rabbi of Posen and teacher of the author of the Magen Avraham, published for the first time from manuscript. Vienna, 1894. An important and foundational work in the history of rabbinic responsa literature. The first responsum printed in the volume consists of a question submitted by the author of the Magen Avraham to his teacher, the author of the present work, together with the latter’s complete response. The book was published with numerous approbations from leading rabbinic authorities of the period. The title page bears the ownership stamp of Rabbi Meir Shapiro of Lublin, dating from his tenure as Rabbi of Piotrków, and the volume contains a lengthy autograph annotation in his own hand, demonstrating that the book formed part of his personal working library and was actively used in his Torah study and scholarly research. Rabbi Meir Shapiro of Lublin (1887–1933) was among the foremost Torah scholars and Jewish leaders of his generation. He founded the famed Yeshivat Chachmei Lublin and originated the revolutionary concept of the Daf Yomi, which transformed Torah study throughout the Jewish world. A leading figure in the Agudath Israel movement, he also served as a member of the Polish Parliament and worked tirelessly to strengthen Torah life in Poland and across Europe.
