Responsa Mei Noach — First Edition | The Copy of the Netziv of Volozhin - Responsa Mei Noach – First Edition. Copy from the Library of the Netziv of Volozhin She'elot U-Teshuvot Mei Noach, responsa and novellae on various Talmudic subjects, together with halachic discussions and numerous annotations to Chayei Adam and Chochmat Adam, by Rabbi Noach ben Rabbi Yechiel Michel Rabinowitz. Vilna, 1881. First edition. An important rabbinic work containing responsa, Talmudic insights, and extensive halachic analyses. The volume was published with approbations from two of the foremost Torah authorities of the generation: Rabbi Yosef Dov HaLevi Soloveitchik of Brisk and Rabbi Yom Tov Lipman HaKohen, author of Malbushei Yom Tov. The author, Rabbi Noach Rabinowitz (1839–1901), served as rabbi in Turets, Slonim, Timkovichi, and Shadova, and was regarded as one of the distinguished rabbinic leaders of Lithuanian Jewry. In addition to the present work, he authored HaTorah VeHaMitzvah on the 613 commandments. The particular significance of the present copy lies in the ownership stamps appearing on the title page: “Naftali Zvi Yehuda Berlin, Rosh Mesivta of the Holy Community of Volozhin.” These stamps testify that the volume formed part of the personal library of Rabbi Naftali Zvi Yehuda Berlin, the renowned Netziv of Volozhin (1816–1893), one of the greatest Torah leaders of the nineteenth century and longtime head of the famed Volozhin Yeshiva. The Netziv was among the foremost architects of Lithuanian Torah scholarship in the modern era. Under his leadership, the Volozhin Yeshiva reached the height of its influence and became the premier center of Torah learning in the Lithuanian world. Thousands of students passed through its halls, many of whom later emerged as leading rabbis and communal figures. His steadfast resistance to Russian governmental attempts to alter the yeshiva curriculum ultimately led to the closing of the institution in 1892. His classic works—including Ha'amek Davar, Meshiv Davar, Meromei Sadeh, and his commentary to the She'iltot—remain foundational texts in the Torah world. A distinguished and highly desirable copy of a contemporary responsa work, preserved in the personal library of the Netziv of Volozhin and bearing his ownership stamps from the period of his leadership of the “Mother of Yeshivot.” [2], 160 pages. 29 cm.
