“From the Holy Rebbe, Shlita” — A Dollar Bill for Blessing Bestowed by the Holy Rebbe, the Pnei Menachem of Gur - A one-dollar United States banknote, issued in 1988 and personally bestowed by the holy hands of Rabbi Pinchas Menachem Alter, the Pnei Menachem of Gur zt”l, sixth Rebbe in the illustrious golden chain of the Gur dynasty, youngest son and cherished delight of the holy Imrei Emes of Gur. An old pencil inscription appears on the note: “From the Holy Rebbe, Shlita.” Rabbi Pinchas Menachem Alter of Gur, author of the Pnei Menachem (1926–1996) , was the sixth Rebbe of the Gur dynasty, youngest son of the holy Imrei Emes of Gur and brother of the Rebbes known as the Beis Yisrael and the Lev Simchah. Rescued from war-torn Europe, he arrived in the Land of Israel with his father in 1940. For decades he headed the renowned Sfas Emes Yeshivah in Jerusalem, educating thousands of students and emerging as one of the foremost figures in the worlds of Torah and Chassidism. Following the passing of his brother, the Lev Simchah, he ascended to the leadership of Gur and guided the dynasty during the closing years of the twentieth century. Alongside his extraordinary stature in Torah scholarship and communal leadership, the Pnei Menachem became renowned as a miracle worker and source of salvation, and tens of thousands of Jews regarded him as a trusted address for blessing in times of distress and deliverance in times of need. People flocked to him from across Israel and around the world seeking his blessing for healing, children, livelihood, suitable marriages, and success.
