Bill of Sale from Constantinople Signed by Rabbis and Community Leaders – 1801 - An original bill of sale executed in Constantinople (Kushta), dated 1801, on behalf of Rabbi Yaakov ben Yom Tov Albo. An authentic legal and rabbinic document reflecting the commercial life of the Jewish community of the Ottoman Empire at the beginning of the nineteenth century. The deed was formally drawn up and signed before witnesses and prominent members of the community, providing a rare glimpse into the functioning of Jewish law in the principal Jewish center of the Ottoman Empire.
