Marriage Permit Issued by Rabbi Tzvi Pesach Frank – Jerusalem, 1957 - An important halachic document handwritten and signed by Rabbi Tzvi Pesach Frank, granting permission for a woman to remarry following a rabbinical determination that she was not subject to the requirement of chalitzah. The document was written on the official stationery of the Chief Rabbinate of Jerusalem in 1957 and bears the autograph signature of one of the foremost halachic authorities in the Land of Israel during the twentieth century. Rabbi Tzvi Pesach Frank (1873–1960), Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem and one of the leading halachic decisors of his generation, was among the most influential rabbinic figures of the Old Yishuv. A distinguished disciple of Rabbi Yehoshua Leib Diskin, he served for decades in Jerusalem’s rabbinical courts and communal leadership. Following the era of Rabbi Shmuel Salant, he emerged as one of the central authorities of Jerusalem’s rabbinical establishment and was appointed Ashkenazi Chief Rabbi of Jerusalem in 1936, a position he held until his passing. Rabbi Frank was renowned throughout the Jewish world as a supreme halachic authority. Rabbis, rabbinical courts, and communal institutions from across the globe sought his rulings on the most complex matters of Jewish law. His responsa and novellae were published in the celebrated Har Tzvi series, one of the most important halachic works of the modern era, from which he became universally known as the author of Har Tzvi.
