On the verso of the title page appears an inscription, apparently in the handwriting of the holy Rabbi Aharon Abuchatzeira, the author's son and publisher of the volume, who brought it to print shortly after the passing of his illustrious father. The significance of this work is twofold: not only is it among the earliest books printed from the teachings of the Avir Yaakov, but it was published through the devoted efforts of his son and foremost disciple, Rabbi Aharon, who regarded the dissemination of his father's writings as a sacred mission. In his moving introduction, Rabbi Aharon describes his father's extraordinary spiritual regimen: how he would review eighteen chapters of Mishnah by heart every night, repeatedly study biblical verses and passages of the Talmud, reduce sleep to the bare minimum, rise at midnight for Tikkun Chatzot, immerse himself in Kabbalistic works until dawn, and then proceed directly to the morning prayers and uninterrupted Torah study. The author, the holy kabbalist Rabbi Yaakov Abuchatzeira – the Avir Yaakov (1806–1880), Rabbi of Tafilalt and one of the founding patriarchs of the illustrious Abuchatzeira dynasty, is regarded as one of the most exalted figures in the history of Moroccan Jewry. A halachic authority, kabbalist, and wonder-working saint, his name was revered throughout North Africa. Numerous traditions recount his extraordinary holiness, his revelations of Elijah the Prophet, and the countless Jews and non-Jews who sought his blessings and counsel. This volume is also closely connected to the remarkable figure of his son, the holy Rabbi Aharon Abuchatzeira (d. 1902), one of the most revered and venerated personalities of the Abuchatzeira family. His burial site, located in a remote village deep within the Moroccan desert, became a destination for pilgrims seeking salvation, blessing, and divine assistance. Family traditions describe the profound awe with which Rabbi Aharon stood before his saintly father. It is related that every Friday night he would present his father with the Kiddush cup, yet such was his reverence for his father's sanctity that his entire body trembled and the wine would spill from the cup. Family members testified that whenever he approached his father, he perceived his face shining with a unique radiance, to the extent that it seemed to him that he was beholding not a mortal man but an angelic being. Presented here is a rare and deeply evocative association copy—a foundational work from the teachings of the Avir Yaakov, issued in its first edition and bearing an inscription by his holy son, Rabbi Aharon, one of the central and most revered figures of the Abuchatzeira dynasty.
