“To a Child Dear to Me” — Birchot Shamayim with a Handwritten Inscription by the Kabbalist Rabbi Sasson Abd al-Aziz Mizrahi Birchot Shamayim. Jerusalem, 1947. - A special copy bearing a personal handwritten inscription by the renowned kabbalist Rabbi Sasson Abd al-Aziz Mizrahi, one of the leading Kabbalistic sages of Jerusalem in the twentieth century. On the front endpaper, he wrote in his own hand: “To a child dear to me, Yaakov Aryeh, may he live and be well. The humble Sasson Abd al-Aziz. Rosh Chodesh Sivan, 5718 [1958].” Rabbi Sasson Abd al-Aziz Mizrahi (1914–1998) was among the foremost kabbalists of his generation. Born in Baghdad, he studied in his youth under the celebrated kabbalist Rabbi Yehudah Fatiyah, one of the greatest masters of Kabbalah in the twentieth century. After immigrating to the Land of Israel, he settled in Jerusalem, where he became renowned for his Torah scholarship, piety, and humility. For decades he studied in partnership with Rabbi Yehudah Tzadka, Rosh Yeshivat Porat Yosef, and was regarded as one of Jerusalem’s leading hidden kabbalists. His works, Bati LeGani, are today considered foundational texts in contemporary Kabbalistic study. Handwritten inscriptions by Rabbi Sasson Mizrahi are exceedingly uncommon on the collectors’ market, particularly early inscriptions from his first decades in the Land of Israel, reflecting both his warm personality and his personal relationships with family members and students.
