Shabbat Knife with Ornate Silver Handle. Germany, Early 20th Century - A fine Shabbat knife featuring an ornate silver handle, hallmarked Germany, dating from the early 20th century. The handle is engraved with the blessing “The blessing of the Lord, it maketh rich” (Proverbs 10:22), while the reverse bears the verse “Go thy way, eat thy bread with joy” (Ecclesiastes 9:7) — an evocative combination reflecting the sanctity of the Shabbat table and the themes of blessing and abundance traditionally associated with the Sabbath meal.
