A major foundational work in the study and practical application of Yoreh De’ah, accepted as one of the principal commentaries on the Shulchan Aruch and incorporated into numerous editions over the generations. The author, Rabbi Hillel ben Rabbi Naftali Hirsch (1615–1691), was among the leading sages of Poland. He studied under his uncle, the Gaon Rabbi Yehoshua Heschel of Kraków. He served as a dayan in the court of Rabbi Moshe Lima, author of Chelkat Mechokek. Around 1670, he was appointed rabbi of Hamburg, and his position on the rabbinical court was subsequently filled by Rabbi Shabtai HaKohen, author of the Shach. He later moved to Zolkiew, where he served as rabbi until his passing. A pedigree copy bearing the ownership signature of the kabbalist Rabbi Masoud HaKohen Elhadad. The kabbalist Rabbi Masoud HaKohen Elhadad (c. 1820–1927) was one of the leading sages of Jerusalem, a Talmudic commentator and renowned kabbalist. For many decades, he headed the Beit El Yeshivat HaMekubalim, the foremost center for the study of Kabbalah in Jerusalem during the early twentieth century. [1], 134 leaves. 28.5 cm. Condition: Good.
