Extraordinary Blessings in the Hand Signature and Personal Seal of Baba Meir Abuhatzeira — for Blessing, Success, and Long Life - A rare and moving letter of blessings from the saintly kabbalist Rabbi Meir Abuhatzeira (“Baba Meir”), son and spiritual successor of the revered Rabbi Yisrael Abuhatzeira (“Baba Sali”). Addressed to Rabbi Simcha HaKohen Kaplan, Chief Rabbi of Safed, the letter is filled with warm and exalted blessings and bears Baba Meir’s own signature and personal seal. Among his blessings, Baba Meir writes: “Wrapped in light as with a garment, may his writing and sealing be for good... abundant peace... in thousands and myriads... for all the family and all those around him... may his youth be renewed like the eagle’s, with complete and exalted health... may his greatness increase for long days and eternal years... and may the eyes of His Honor behold the complete Redemption and the coming of the Righteous Redeemer speedily in our days, Amen.” The letter concludes with his distinctive signature: “Servant of Hashem, Meir Abuhatzeira” accompanied by his personal seal. Beyond its historical importance as one of the relatively few surviving letters of Baba Meir—who, by nature, lived a secluded life and engaged little in public correspondence—the letter also possesses a remarkable spiritual and segulah dimension. Throughout the generations, the handwritten blessings of great tzaddikim have been treasured by Jews as powerful tokens of protection, blessing, success, and salvation. All the more so when the document comes from one of the foremost figures of the illustrious Abuhatzeira dynasty, a family renowned throughout the Jewish world for holiness, miracles, blessings, and wonders. Baba Meir was not only a revered kabbalist and wonder-worker; he was also an outstanding Torah scholar, profoundly versed in both the revealed and esoteric dimensions of Torah. Contemporary Torah giants spoke of his greatness in extraordinary terms, some testifying that had he outlived his father, his stature would have surpassed even that of the holy Baba Sali. Before us, therefore, is far more than a letter of greeting. It is a sacred document bearing the blessings of one of the generation’s great tzaddikim—blessings for prosperity, success, health, longevity, honor, and the privilege of witnessing the complete Redemption. Rabbi Meir Abuhatzeira — “Baba Meir” (1917–1983) Rabbi Meir Abuhatzeira, known throughout the Jewish world as Baba Meir, was regarded as a saint from birth and a renowned miracle-worker. Born in Morocco to the holy Baba Sali, he was dedicated by his father from childhood to a life of Torah, sanctity, and purity. Tradition relates that for many years the two holy men—Baba Sali and his son Baba Meir—studied together in seclusion in an upper chamber, devoting themselves to Torah and spiritual refinement while avoiding all worldly distractions. It was through this extraordinary regimen of holiness that they attained their celebrated spiritual stature. Baba Meir served as rabbi and rosh yeshivah in Midelt and later as rabbi of Erfoud. In addition to his mastery of Kabbalah, he became renowned as an exceptional scholar of the revealed Torah. From 1965 onward he lived in Ashdod, where he began receiving visitors even during his father’s lifetime and became widely known for the power of his blessings, his holiness, and his exceptional personal conduct. Prominent Torah leaders of his generation testified that had he not passed away during Baba Sali’s lifetime, he would have attained even greater renown and influence. Among his sons are several of the most distinguished rabbis of the Abuhatzeira family, including Rabbi Elazar Abuhatzeira and, long may he live, the renowned kabbalist Rabbi David Chai Abuhatzeira of Nahariya.
