Attractive Contemporary Binding - An attractive and fascinating edition of Song of Songs accompanied by Judeo-Spanish translations, reflecting the linguistic and cultural world of the Spanish and Portuguese Jewish communities of eighteenth-century Europe. The volume contains: Paraphrasis Caldayca en los Cantares de Selomoh Song of Songs in Hebrew, accompanied by a Ladino translation printed in Latin characters, as well as a Spanish translation based on the Aramaic Targum (Targum Jonathan), arranged clearly paragraph by paragraph alongside the Hebrew text. Also included is Pirkei Avot (Ethics of the Fathers), with a complete Spanish translation intended for ethical and philosophical study among Spanish-speaking readers. The work was printed in Amsterdam in 1766, one of the foremost centers of Hebrew printing and Sephardic Jewish literature during the early modern period.
