From the Earliest and Rare Baghdad Hebrew Presses – Seder Vidui HaGadol for Yom Kippur According to the Baghdad Rite - Seder Vidui HaGadol for Yom Kippur. Accompanied by verses, piyyutim, supplications, and prayers for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur according to the custom of Baghdad. [Baghdad, circa 1870–1880]. An exceptionally rare liturgical booklet from the earliest period of Hebrew printing in Baghdad, containing an expanded version of the confession prayer beginning Ashamnu, Bagadnu, together with biblical verses, piyyutim, hymns, and supplications for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur according to the traditions of the Jewish community of Baghdad. The booklet also includes a prayer composed by the renowned kabbalist Rabbi Shalom Sharabi (the Rashash), to be recited during the removal of the Torah scroll on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. The entire work is printed in unvocalized Hebrew type, as was customary in many of the early Baghdad Hebrew imprints. Hebrew printing in Baghdad began to develop only during the second half of the nineteenth century, and publications from this formative period are today of considerable rarity. Prayer booklets of this nature, intended for regular use in synagogues and private homes, were heavily used and consequently few have survived intact. Recorded by Yaari (Hebrew Printing in Baghdad, no. 41), who dates the edition to between 1870 and 1880. Exceptionally rare. The copy preserved in the National Library of Israel is incomplete.
