Presented here is the personal copy of one of the foremost Chassidic kabbalists of recent generations, the holy Rebbe Rabbi Chanania Yosef Akiva Rabinowitz of Porisov, scion of the illustrious Porisov dynasty and a direct descendant of Rabbi Yehoshua Asher of Porisov, son of the famed “Yehudi HaKadosh” of Przysucha. On the front flyleaf appears a signed presentation inscription from the publisher: “To His Holiness, Our Master the Rebbe, shlita” and on both sides of the page are impressed the Rebbe’s personal ownership stamps: “Ch.Y. Akiva Rabinowitz of Porisov, Jerusalem, may it be rebuilt and established.” Chazal and the masters of Kabbalah reveal that the waving of the lulav contains extraordinary spiritual powers and lofty mystical effects: To ward off harmful winds and destructive dews — “He moves it forward and backward to restrain harmful winds; upward and downward to restrain harmful dews.” A sign of victory in judgment — The Midrash teaches that when Israel emerges after Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur carrying lulav and esrog, it is a sign that they have prevailed in judgment before the Heavenly Court. Drawing down blessing and sustenance — The writings of the Arizal explain that the na’anu’im channel Divine abundance to all six directions of creation and effect lofty unifications in the upper worlds. For this reason, kabbalists would direct their intentions toward livelihood, health, and salvation during the waving. Protection from heavenly accusations — The Zohar describes the Four Species as a spiritual weapon against prosecuting forces, with the na’anu’im dispelling judgments and drawing down Divine mercy. A segulah for children and enduring offspring — Chassidic and kabbalistic works associate the proper fulfillment of the mitzvah and its mystical intentions with the rectification of the attribute of Yesod, making it a renowned segulah for building a family and meriting children. An auspicious time for salvation — Chassidic masters taught that during the na’anu’im, and especially while reciting “Ana Hashem Hoshi‘ah Na”, the gates of mercy stand open and it is a particularly favorable time to seek personal and communal salvation. If Chazal, the holy Zohar, the Arizal, and the Rashash all spoke so highly of the spiritual power of the lulav’s waving and its ability to draw down blessing, mercy, and salvation, then all the more precious is a siddur of these kavanos that rested upon the table of a holy Rebbe and accomplished kabbalist, and which accompanied him in his sacred service during the exalted days of Sukkos. Copies of kabbalistic prayer books and works of mystical intentions that were actually used by Rebbes and kabbalists—especially when bearing presentation inscriptions and ownership stamps—are highly sought after among collectors of Chassidic and Kabbalistic literature. Biography The kabbalistic Rebbe Rabbi Chanania Yosef Akiva Rabinowitz of Porisov (ca. 1935–2024) was one of the distinctive figures of the Chassidic and Kabbalistic world of Jerusalem in the last generation. A scion of the illustrious Porisov dynasty, whose lineage traces back through Kotzk and Vurka to Porisov, he was renowned as an extraordinary servant of Hashem who devoted the greater part of his life to the study of the inner dimension of Torah, the writings of the Arizal, and the teachings of the Rashash. For decades he lived in Jerusalem, engaging in prayer and Divine service according to the path of the kabbalists, while immersing himself in works of mystical intentions and Kabbalistic manuscripts. His study hall became a gathering place for seekers, Chassidim, and men of spiritual aspiration who sought entry into the world of Kabbalah and inner avodah. He was widely admired for his humility, asceticism, and profound devotion, and was recognized for his exceptional mastery of Kabbalistic literature and the traditions of the Jerusalem kabbalists. 304 pages. 25 cm.
