Pair of Copper Amulets in the Form of a Star of David. Morocco, 19th–20th Century - An attractive pair of folk amulets from the Jewish tradition of Morocco, crafted from copper and formed as six-pointed Stars of David. At each of the six points is a small copper plaque soldered in place and engraved with the Divine Name “Shaddai”, a common protective motif in Jewish amuletic art. At the center of each amulet is an additional plaque depicting the Tablets of the Law together with the letters of the Hebrew alphabet. The Divine Name “Shaddai” appears again at the upper section, while a further plaque bearing the same name is attached to the lower part. An original suspension loop is affixed at the top. Such amulets were likely intended as household protective objects and were traditionally hung on the walls of the home to provide blessing, protection, and safeguarding for its inhabitants.
