Manuscript – Collection of Sermons, Eulogies, and Torah Novellae – [Tunisia? Middle East] - A manuscript containing an extensive collection of discourses, sermons, eulogies, and Torah novellae, written in Oriental Hebrew script, originating from the Middle East or North Africa. The contents indicate that the author was an accomplished Torah scholar who delivered public sermons and recorded his discourses and original Torah insights in writing. The manuscript opens with a lengthy Talmudic discourse on the statement of the Sages in Tractate Sukkah (45b): “Rabbi Chizkiyah said in the name of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai: I am able to exempt the entire world from judgment from the day I was born until now, ” etc. Among the writings is a “Sermon in Praise of the City of Safed.” The manuscript continues with Torah novellae on various weekly portions, sermons, and eulogies on a range of subjects, including profound interpretations and discourses reflecting the author's considerable Torah scholarship. Some of the sermons and novellae are arranged according to the weekly Torah portions. On one leaf, novellae on Parashat Vayakhel were written on stationery bearing the heading “Yosef Barabi, Tunisia” – an interesting detail that may assist in determining the manuscript's origin, identifying its author, or tracing its provenance. [72] leaves. 21 cm. Some leaves are written on one side only. The leaves have been gathered and rebound. Condition: Good to very good. Minor stains. Attractive new half-leather binding.
