Proven Amulet!!! Dollar Given from the Rebbe’s Holy Hands – to a Distinguished Individual, Laden with Rare and Unparalleled Blessings - “Blessing and success, mit a zisse yohr, mit pitka tava... on Hoshana Rabbah 5752.” A one-dollar U.S. banknote, given from the holy hands of the Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel of Lubavitch, to a relative of the Rebbe and one of the prominent figures of Orthodox Jewry [his name is withheld by the auction house]. The banknote was given on one of the most auspicious days of the Jewish calendar – Hoshana Rabbah, the great day of salvation – accompanied by exceptionally rare and special blessings, in honor of the recipient’s family relationship to the Rebbe and his monumental accomplishments in the realm of Judaism, which cannot be elaborated upon here. The blessings spoken by the Rebbe when presenting the banknote were inscribed upon it: “Blessing and success, mit a zisse yohr, mit pitka tava... on Hoshana Rabbah 5752.” Every dollar bill presented by the Rebbe of Lubavitch, of blessed memory, is infinitely precious, bearing the sanctity of the giving and the Rebbe’s blessing. Yet the dollar bill before us stands in a category all its own. It is not one of the hundreds of dollar bills the Rebbe distributed, one after another, each Sunday during his famous dollar-distribution sessions, when a bill passed from the Rebbe’s holy hand to the recipient’s hand in the blink of an eye. This was a singular and exceptional encounter: the Rebbe paused over the bill, bestowed special blessings upon it, and conveyed rare and explicit blessings to its recipient, which were recorded on the bill itself. This was therefore no dollar handed out as part of a routine distribution, but a bill that received special attention and was accompanied by personal blessings. Throughout the generations, and particularly in Chassidic tradition, great significance has been attributed to objects used by tzaddikim. Special importance has been attached to banknotes and coins given from their holy hands, which have been regarded as actual amulets. Particularly renowned are the dollar bills given from the holy hand of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, which are considered proven and tried amulets, as attested by Chassidim, young and old alike. The Rebbe himself once explained the segulah of the banknote, with particular emphasis on bringing an abundance of livelihood: just as when a small amount of beverage remaining from a Kos Shel Berachah – Cup of Blessing is mixed into even an entire barrel, the whole barrel acquires the segulah of the remnants, so too, when money received from a tzaddik, even a single small coin, becomes mingled with a person’s possessions, all his property acquires the segulah of “the tzaddik’s money, ” and all his wealth is blessed. The Rebbe further remarked that this is the meaning of the teaching of the Sages: “Whoever takes a perutah from Job is blessed” (Bava Batra 15) – even a small sum received from a tzaddik brings blessing upon all of one’s money. However, the present banknote is exceptional even among the Rebbe’s dollar bills: both in the auspicious date on which it was given – Hoshana Rabbah 5752; in the special blessings that accompanied its presentation and were inscribed upon the banknote by the recipient as they were being uttered; and in the unique identity of its recipient – a relative of the Rebbe, a descendant of the Baal HaTanya and one of the prominent figures of Orthodox Jewry. Above all – because of the salvations that were brought about for the recipient through this banknote. At the request of the consignor, we are unable to disclose the name of the recipient, who, as stated above, was one of the prominent figures of Orthodox Jewry, nor the famous miracles that occurred to him as a result of it. These details will be provided directly to interested parties by the auction house. In the discussion of amulets in the Babylonian Talmud (Shabbat 61b), the concept of a “proven amulet” (kame’a mumcheh) is discussed, and special significance is attributed there to an amulet that has already been established as effective. Accordingly, in the tradition of segulot, special virtue is attributed specifically to an amulet that has already been used and proven, as opposed to a new amulet that has not yet been established. Before us, therefore, is an extraordinary “proven amulet”: a dollar bill given from the holy hands of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, on the auspicious day of Hoshana Rabbah, to his relative, a descendant of the Baal HaTanya; accompanied by rare blessings for blessing, success, a sweet year, and “pitka tava” – and through which the recipient experienced famous salvations and miracles. A Chassidic segulah item of the highest order, with distinguished family provenance and documented authenticity. Good condition. Age stains. Upon request, a certificate attesting to the authenticity of the banknote will be provided, signed by the recipient’s son, who,
