Unpublished Manuscript – Notebook of Torah Novellae by a Student of the Yeshivas of Pressburg, Sered, and Other Cities – 1870s Onward - A manuscript comprising approximately 125 pages, written by an unidentified Torah scholar, containing Talmudic novellae by the author and his teachers in various cities throughout Hungary, where he studied from the 1870s onward. Among the rabbis whose Torah teachings and novellae are recorded in the manuscript are: - The Shevet Sofer of Pressburg (1875). - Rabbi Feish Feishman, Maggid Meisharim of Pressburg. - Rabbi Mordechai Broda, Av Beit Din of Miava. - Rabbi Uri Müller, Av Beit Din of Brezova. - Rabbi Wolf Fuchs, Av Beit Din of Sered (1871). - Rabbi Moshe Kamaren. The author also mentions, on several occasions, Torah novellae from his paternal grandfather, who was still alive at the time. The manuscript includes drafts of various letters addressed to the holy Gaon Rabbi Yehuda Greenwald, Av Beit Din of Satmar (from the period when he served as rabbi of Bonyhád); Rabbi Yosef Leib Sofer, author of Yalkut Sofer; and the author's uncle, Rabbi Yaakov Weldler. At the beginning of the notebook are several unidentified signatures. At the end is a detached leaf bearing inscriptions, including the name ”Yisrael Schreter.” He may have been the author of the manuscript, although we have been unable to find any biographical information about him. Numerous signatures in Latin script also appear, apparently belonging to the same Rabbi Yisrael. The contents of the manuscript have not been thoroughly examined. Further study may reveal additional clues that could establish the identity of its author. It is evident, however, that the author was a distinguished Torah scholar (Gavra Rabba), a disciple of the leading rabbinic luminaries of Hungary during the 1870s and a close associate of the rabbis of the following generation. Approximately [125] written pages, plus blank leaves. 21 cm. Written in ink and pencil. Fair to good condition. Tears and wear to some leaves. Several detached leaves. Lacking the front cover.
