Bidspirit auction | MATHEUS MÜLLER - EXTRA CHAMPAGNE

MATHEUS MÜLLER - EXTRA CHAMPAGNE - M. KEMPINKSI & CO., AMSTERDAM - Condition (1) | Enamel sign / Porcelain sign, thickly stenciled, GER/NL around 1920, 60 x 98 cm, Torpedo Email., Frankfurter Emaillierwerke, Neu-Isenburg, with bag, dog and servants, the noble lord sets out to drink the (attention) ‘Champagne’ from Eltville am Rhein - the design was created by Franz Christophe, an Austrian-born artist and illustrator who also worked for the well-known satirical weekly magazine ‘Simplicissimus’. This version for the Dutch ‘Wijnhandel M. Kempinski & Co, Amsterdam’ was previously only known to us from postcards and old pictures from the Netherlands. All the more reason to be delighted that we can now admire it in the flesh. When it was delivered, it was still partly covered with old wall paint, which we carefully removed – the surface shines wonderfully, and the black is still richly preserved. | We do only sell old original pieces - no reproductions or fakes.
