CHOCOLAT PUPIER (2+) - Condition (2+) | Enamel sign, slightly distorted, stenciled and lithographed, F 1927, 40 x 110 cm, Emaillerie Alsacienne Strasbourg, signed: Jean d'Ylen, very good gloss and color, probably one of the best designs of old French advertising, here the harlequin cautiously looks over his shoulder before taking another bite of the chocolate - In this case, without a thermometer nearby to warn him of impending chocolate meltdown. His astonished expression must be due to the interest aroused by the onlookers. This is arguably the rarest variant in the “Pupier” series; there are hardly any better examples known.
