OPEL AUTOMOBILE (3) - Huge tin sign, embossed, lithographed, GER late 1920s, 179 x 109 cm / 70.5 x 42.9 in. the design is probably attributable to Max Bittrof, who was a member of the “Neues Frankfurt” group and created designs for Opel at the time. Like the “Bauhaus,” “Neues Frankfurt” was a school of modernism. Although it was essentially independent, it was clearly inspired by Joost Schmidt's design for the State Bauhaus Exhibition in 1923. the lithograph was partly touched up. We are only aware of two other examples, and this one is particularly impressive with its beautiful patina and enormous size.
