AMERICAN BOSCH | EMAILSCHILD | ALTE REKLAME | ZUSTAND (2) - Condition (2) | Porcelain sign ( Enamel sign ) as double-sided flange, thickly stenciled, USA around 1930, 39,5 x 61 cm, Made in U.S.A., a recently discovered find of which only one other, significantly less well-preserved example was previously known to us. The depiction known as “Bosch-Mephisto,” which is based on a design by Julius Klinger, actually shows Camille Jenatzy (BE), one of the most famous race car drivers of the early 20th century. His victory in the 1903 Gordon Bennett Race was legendary, he won it in a borrowed 60-PS Mercedes due to a defect in his own vehicle, even though his competitors’ cars delivered 90 PS. Just as he had done in his original race car, Jenatzy had Bosch spark plugs installed at the last minute - and thus became the German automotive supplier’s first advertising icon. | We do only sell originals, no replicas or fakes.
