With the signature of the Gaon, author of Shev Yaakov. - The book Kevod Elokim includes essays on philosophy and research to prove the virtues of man and the Torah against the system of Aristotle which is opposed to the Torah. Rabbi Yosef ben Shem Tov ibn Shem Tov was among the great Sages of Spain at the beginning of the year 5100 [c. 1340 CE]. [2] He was a renowned philosopher and scholar. Torah and greatness were united in him, and he was also close to the royalty. [2] He composed many books, but most of them were not printed. [2] He was the Rabbi of our master Don Yitzhak Abarbanel, who received Torah from him in his youth, and is mentioned by Abarbanel in his books. [2] On one of his journeys to preach to the masses, he was murdered by a gentile, may his memory be a blessing. On the title page appears the holy signature of the Gaon, the author of Shev Yaakov, in a flowery language: ”If a man asks to whom you belong, so shall you say: to the children of Yaakov.” [4] It was his way to sign himself with elegance of language. [4] The Gaon Rabbi Yaakov HaCohen Papirsh, may his memory be a blessing (born c. 1670 - died c. 1740), Av Beit Din of Frankfurt am Main, author of Shev Yaakov, one of the great Sages of his generation. [5] Already at a young age, he served as a Rabbi in several towns. [5] In the year 1718, he was appointed to serve as Av Beit Din and Rosh Metivta of Frankfurt am Main, filling the place of the great Sage of his generation, Rabbi Avraham Broda. [5] In Frankfurt, he headed a large and famous Yeshiva, and as the Chida puts it in Shem HaGedolim: ”He spread Torah in his important and great Yeshiva of four hundred exceptional young men, and raised up many students there.” [5] Among his famous students are the Gaon Rabbi Yosef Steinhart, author of Zichron Yosef, the Gaon Rabbi Yaakov Berlin, author of Be'er Yaakov, the Gaon Rabbi Elchanan Ashkenazi, author of Sidrei Taharah, the Gaon Rabbi Tevel Scheyer, and others. [5] His work, the Responsa Shev Yaakov, was accepted throughout all of Israel, and his words are brought extensively for inclusion in the books of the Poskim and the great Sages of the generation.
