Marpeh Lashon u'Darkei Noam. Venice, 1546. First Edition. - A significant and fundamental work on Hebrew grammar and the art of poetry, penned by the esteemed and brilliant grammarian, Rabbi Moshe ben Shem Tov ibn Habib. Printed in Venice in the year 1546. Printed in the house of the renowned printer Daniel Bomberg, (alongside Cornelio Adelkind). Found on the final leaf is a piece titled 'Tachbula merabbi Avraham ן’ Ezra'. Rabbi Moshe ben Shem Tov ibn Habib (c. 1450-1520): He was a Hebrew poet and grammarian, born in Lisbon, Portugal. He journeyed through Spain, the lands of Arabia, and possibly France, ultimately settling in the Jewish community of Bitonto in southern Italy. Through his writings, he transmitted the teachings of grammar and the art of poetry of the Sages of Spain. He was also well-versed in philosophy. His commentary on the work ”Behinat Olam” by Yedayah ha-Penini is cited by later commentators on that work. 26 leaves. 14.5 cm. Some stains. Good condition.
