Heavily constructed of solid pure copper, it consists of three main parts: case, dial and movement.The case is elaborately carved in luxurious gilt bronze. The top is decorated with an ancient Roman vase flanked by foliate ornaments and large acanthus leaf garlands. A pair of Roman vase carvings stand on either side, with drooping laurel branches symbolizing victory??derived from the crown worn by Napoleon at his coronation.Beneath the white dial lies a gilt bronze bow and arrow, emblematic of Diana, the Roman goddess of the hunt. The lower section of the case features an aristocratic family crest surrounded by three acanthus leaves, layered with rich overlapping acanthus foliage.The white enamel dial is designed with double scales of two rings of Arabic numerals: twelve black Arabic numerals for hours and four for quarter-hour markings.
