Rabbi Meschulem Rath from Mielnica Galcia - Regarding his nominee for serving as Rabbi of Vatra Dornei [today Romania]. Sent from Kolomea 1898 2 full pages covering several issues. He concludes his letter with hopes that he will be elected to serve as Rav in Vatra Dornei [then Galicia] despite having another 3 nominees, but in his opinion his sermon which he delivered before the electing board impressed them the most, also the ultra Orthodox and the enlightened Ashkenazis as well. Rabbi Meshulam Rath (1875-1965). In his childhood, he moved to Kolomyja, where he started his studies. His father was a Chortkov Hassid and used to take him to the Rebbe Rabbi David Moshe Freidman of Chortkov, from whom he learned a lot. At the age of eight, he knew complete tractates by heart with their Tosfot commentary. He studied with the most outstanding rabbis, among them Rabbi Ya'akov Weinfield - author of 'Kochav Mi'Ya'akov', Rabbi Avraham Menachem Mendel Steinberg - author of 'Machazeh Avraham', Rabbi Meir Arik and others. When he was thirteen he was known as ”the Prodigy of Horodenka”. At the age of fifteen, he knew the complete Talmud and Midrashim. He served as the rabbi of several towns. In 1914, during World War I, he escaped with many other Jews to Vienna. After surviving the Holocaust, he immigrated in 1944 to the Land of Israel and settled in Jerusalem. Despite his age, he was asked to serve as member of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel and the Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Yitzchak Isaac Herzog asked him to be his advisor. He is the author of the 'Kol Mevaser' Responsa.
