Marpeh Lanefesh First print of Tikunim from the Arizal! Venice, 1595. First Edition * Tikkunei Teshuvah by the holy Arizal, surrounded by commentaries from his disciple, Rabbi Avraham Tzahalon. This sefer contains the first printing of the Arizal’s Tikkunei Teshuvah addressing the tikkun (rectification) for Pgam HaYesod including the earliest mention of the well-known tikkun “84 fasts” (peh-dalet ta’aniyot) (see fol. 8a). Rabbi Avraham Tzahalon was the first of the Arizal's students to bring the teachings of the Arizal to print. These tikkunim are the earliest printed writings of the Arizal [other than Shabbos piyutim]. The following appears on the title page: ”Rectifications and healings for the soul, from the divine Kabbalist Harav Yitzchak Luria Ashkenazi z”l… newly revealed, unknown since the days of Rabi Shimon bar Yochai z”l.” Printed in two columns. Above one side appears the title: “Divrei HaHaRIL”A” [Words of the Rabbi and Divine Kabbalist Harav Yitzchak Luria Ashkenazi]. The second column is entitled: “Divrei HaAVY”TZ [Words of the Young Avraham ben Yitzchak Tzahalon]. A very rare sefer. Rabbi Avraham Tzahalon (d.1600) was a grandson of Rabbi Yitzchak Karo, the author of Toldos Yitzchak and a relative of the Beis Yosef. He was a disciple of the Arizal in Tzfas and travelled to Italy where he printed his works Marpeh Lanefesh, Yad Charutzim, and Yesha Elokim in his old age. Venice, 1595. First edition. Page Count: [22] leaves. The colophon is printed separately on the final leaf (leaf 22). Size: 19.7 cm. Condition: Good; small holes and signs of use. Small repairs along the inner margins of several leaves. New binding. On the verso of the title page is an elaborate signature: ”Suleiman David S”T”.
