Beautiful Manuscript Pizmonim Shel Milah with a Mohel’s Ledger Italy, circa 1853 * The order of Bris Milah and its blessings, with over 20 piyutim (liturgical poems) and hymns traditionally sung at the circumcision ceremony, according to the custom of Italian Jewry. There is a magnificent title page featuring impressive geometric designs in many colors, with the inscription: ”Sefer Pizmonim Shel Milah, for the illustrious scholar Rabbi Raphael Ashkenazi, may he be well.” Rabbi Ashkenazi was a native of Ancona. The manuscript is bound in its original fine leather binding, with a glossy finish and well-preserved gilt designs! The sefer is housed in a matching leather case, decorated with marbled paper lining. Following the piyutim, the manuscript contains records of five circumcisions performed between 1853 and 1858: The mohel’s two sons, his nephew, who was named ”Shimshon Chaim” after the author of 'Zera Shimshon', and two other children.
